Short History Of Assam Gramin Vikash Bank (AGVB)?

Assam Gramin Vikash Bank (AGVB) is a Regional Rural Bank established under the Regional Rural Banks' Act 1976. It is a joint subsidiary of Government of India, Punjab National Bank and Government of Assam. In which the Government of India have 50% stake, Punjab National Bank (PNB) have 35% stake and Assam Government have 15% stake.

Govt. of India vide Notification No. F.1. (25)/2005 dated 12th January 2006 amalgamated the four Regional Rural Banks sponsored by the United Bank of India in the state of Assam to form Assam Gramin Vikash Bank (AGVB). The erstwhile RRBs amalgamated were

Pragjyotish Gaonlia Bank (Estd. 06-07-1976)

Lakhimi Gaonlia Bank (Estd. 29-07-1980)

Cachar Gramin Bank (Estd. 31-03-1981)

Subansiri Gaonlia Bank (Estd. 30-03-1982)

Thereafter vide Government of India notification no 854 dated 22nd February 2019 Langpi Dehangi Rural Bank (Sponsored by State Bank of India) and Assam Gramin Vikash Bank have been amalgamated with sponsorship of United Bank of India. Thus Assam Gramin Vikash Bank (AGVB) has come into existence from 1st April 2019 covering entire geographical area of the state through its strong network of 471 branches. Further after amalgamation of United Bank of India with Punjab National Bank, the sponsorship of the bank has gone to Punjab National Bank w.e.f 1st April 2020.

Presently Assam Gramin Vikash Bank (AGVB) is the only Regional Rural Banks (RRB) in Assam. It is providing its services with its 471 branches in all districts of Assam.

If we discuss about total business of Assam Gramin Vikash Bank (AGVB) as on 31.03.2022 then that is Rs 13,347.11 crore, which is increased by 07.30% from last FY21. In which the total deposit is Rs.7,749.49 crore and the total advance is Rs.5,597.62 crore. There is a increase in total deposit by 09.28% from last FY21and increase in total advance is 4.67% from last FY. Banks operating profit in FY 2021-22 is Rs 149.99 crore. Gross NPA of the bank has come down to 2.19% from last from last years 02.35%.
